Q.

Winds and cramps

I would like to know, my LO is 2 weeks old, and I was unable to breat feed as he would not latch. I put him on S26 but the last few days he is very crampy...about an hour or 2 after every feed he would wake up and be very unconfortable, and have stomach cramps. He also farts a lot - I mean the hole day long, and when his stomach goes, its almost as if its painfull for him, and it takes him about 10 minutes to go....could it be the milk should I consider something else? and what? I use Telament Gripe Water, but it does not seem to help for long.......please help? I sometimes feel like crying along with him.....he then wants to be held in an upright position, and falls a sleep, for a while and then he wakes up again...he also has some discomfort when he farts? Is this normal? Should I take him to the Paediatrician.?

Your baby's symptoms strongly suggest a lactose intolerance problem. Try him on one of the new lactiose free formulas such as NAN LF or Novalac LF

I had my son on Novalac ac, now 20 months old he' s on Isomil2 thats excellant for constipated babies and because he is celebral palsy he' s got permanent cramps and winds, if you are in the JHB maybe CPT area, ask at any pharmacy for Bonnycare, this is the only syrup for colic that doesn' t drug the poor thing out of its mind and when he wakes up its back to square one, in the meantime put a few drops telament in his bottle.
