Whining / crying with no tears

Hello Prof,
My 3year4month old little girl has started whining terribly. She has never been like that before. She is in creche full day and has a best friend and this little girl went on holiday with her family for 3 weeks. I am sure it started when the friend went away - do you think that 3 year olds can be so close to a best friend that their behaviour can change when the friend is " missed" ? Also is that whinning (crying with no tears and throwing themselves on the floor when they dont get their own way) normal at 3? I walk away from her (breaks my heart) but i feel that that is negative behaviour and i dont want to give her positive attention for negative this wrong do you think? I dont want to bring her up thinking that throwing a tantrum will get her what she wants?

It is possible that your daughter's crying and whining is due to her friend being away on holiday. This has upset your daughter's enjoyment of being at the creche. This should improve when her friend returns.
You are handling your daughter's temper tantrums very well indeed and this is exactly the right way to manage this behaviour.Fortunately temper tantrums are just a stage and hopefully your daughter will get over this soon.
