When to go to the doc

Hi , thanks for you advice! Much appreciated when money is tight and i can not afford to see the doc every week!

My son is 7 months next week. I have changed him from Lactogen to NAN since the scare over a week ago (NAN2).

He has been suffering from what i think is constipation - only goes every 2.5 days. He does not seem to be in any discomfort at all - plays, smiles and laughs as normal. When he has a movement you can see and hear he strains. The first bit of stool is hard like putty but the remainder is soft.

At the 6 month check up with the Paed, he suggested i put a teaspoon of brown sugar in each bottle of feed and give him additional water - all of which i have done.

My problem is that this week it took him 3.5 days to pass a stool. I feed him 2 teaspoons of rice cereal in the evening with 2 teaspoons purity prune (which he loves). I was desparate last night so i gave him 5ml Duphalac.

What should i do - When should i go see the doctor or try and control this by myself?

The best advice would be to put your son back on Lactogen 2. It is quite safe and a good formula for infants who tend towards being constipated.
