You will notice a white coating on your baby's tongue which does not clear up after feeds and is present all the time.

If breastfeeding you might also have pain in your nipples (like a deep stabbing pain) during and after feeds.

All babies have some milk in their mouths after feeds, if they have thrush, it will not move when you try to wipe it off, if its just milk, you will sometimes see it and sometimes not as baby''s saliva will also get rid of it. If baby has thrush, his mouth can be sore and he might bite at the breast or refuse to feed.

If you think baby has thrush, you should see your doctor as both you and baby need to be treated otherwise you will keep on re-infecting each other. You need to continue treatment for at least 2 weeks after all symptoms have stopped in both your and baby''s mouth. Even if only one of you has symptoms, you must both be treated.

Dummies can also contribute to thrush, so either stop using a dummy or get new ones for during hte treatment and then throw them away and get new ones to use after treatment has finished as well - otherwise you will continue to re-infect each other.
