Q.

waking 8 - 10 times a night

My son will be 8 months old on the 4th of December. For the last 3 months he wakes up more than 8 times a night. We eliminated cold or hunger and still he wakes up to drink a bit of milk. Ive tried just to put the dummy back and get him to fall asleep again but he wants his milk. He doesnt drink a lot at a time though - but from 19h00h00 at night till 5h00 the next morning he drinks 2 bottles of milk. He doesnt drink a lot in the day but he eats his porridge, veggies and fruit. I tried giving him water but he screams for the milk. I cant see that he has cramps so i dont think its the milk. He doesnt sleep a lot in the day either. Maybe a half hour in the morning and a half hour in the afternoon. Once a week he will sleep 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. I hear about sleep training but i cant find anything on the question list regarding this. Can you please give me advise as we are getting real tired from not sleeping

Paediatrician

Among the causes of your son's sleeplessness at the age of 8 months [he really seems to be a very poor sleeper during the day as well as at night] are: teething, hunger, nasal blockage, acid reflux, possible milk or other food intolerance and simply a poor sleep routine that he has developed. What concerns me is his sleep pattern as he is really getting very little sleep indeed and this alone will aggravate the whole problem. It would be best to consult your paediatrician just to be sure that your baby is entirely well before you embark on any possible sleep training.
