Q.

Vommiting every day

My 2 yr old boy has been vommiting alot. Every day for the past 3 months he just vomits. It''s not just a little spit, it is a lot, and he does this 2 - 3 times a day, mostly at night, even in his sleep. I dont know if the doctors dont want to help me, because every time they tell me they dont know what is wrong with him or they tell me its viral infection. (viral infection can not last for 3 months can it?) On friday i had him at the hospital''s ER with a high fever &  again it is viral infection. asked the doc about the vommiting and he said there is a post nasal drip and that might be the reason for the vommiting. So off to E.N.T we go - what a waste of time and money. ENT says what ever is wrong with him has nothing to do with him - he must go to the paediatrician, but the paediatrician saw him when he was admitted to hospital in Feb for viral infection and also said that he does not know why he keeps on vommiting. I really need help Fast. What can be wrong? is it reflux. is he allergic to any thing?

Paediatrician

This is a good and important question. I always take repeated vomiting in a young child like your son very seriously. There are many possible causes, but the most important to exclude are problems with his stomach and gastro-intestinal system and as or more importantly any possible neurological condition. Your son must be seen by a paediatrician who will give him a thorough and careful exmination. He may need to have special tests done such as scans. If you let me know in which region you live I will recommend someone to see your son.

So on monday his temp was 39.7 when we took him back to the hospitals er. This time he has bronchiolites, and ear infections. So we go home with meds to the value of R300 (augmenten and preflam). We had an appointment with our paeditrician today and now my son is admitted in hospital. They took a poop sample and blood to run some test. As per the paed he might be asmatic and thats the reason for coughing and vomiting. We are awaiting the test results.
