Q.

Vomitting

Hi Professor,

My one year old son vomits about every second day. He gags and then coughs and then vomits. It is usually milk that comes out. Could this be due to me over feeding him? He always opens his mouth but then seems to struggle to swallow sometimes.

Today I was feeding him mashed butternut and he gagged on it.

Thank you.

You do not mention how long this has been going on. Is this a new problem? Also whether he appears to be ill or not. This kind of problem with swallowing in this age group may be due to reflux if it is an old problem or to the fact that your son does not yet like coarse foods and would prefer well mashed foods still. The other possibility is that he may indeed be eating too much. Please let me know if his problem continues.
