Q.

VOMITING

I have a 7 week old baby and has forceful vomiting, not every day and only once a day. The doc says it is normal and baby is gaining weight. When will he outgrow this. It is not a big problem, just the laundry gets a bit much after the vimiting.

Some babies do vomit like this with winds, but not virtually every day. Importantly your baby is gaining weight which is a good sign. Forceful vomiting in babies especially male infants can be due to a condition called pyloric stenosis. Here there is narrowing of the outlet valve of the stomach [pyloric valve] where the stomach joins the duodenum. If your baby's forceful vomiting continues for another week he should be seen again by the paediatrician just to be sure that he does not have pyloric stenosis.

I do know about pyloric stenosis, he doesn''t vomit profusely over and over, only once after a feed and the the whole day doesn''t vomit again. Some days he doesn''t vomit at all. It is just frustrating for him, cos he gets hungry again after, when will this stop do they out grow it?<br>

Pyloric stenosis presents with forceful vomiting so be on the lookout for this.
