Q.

Viral infection

Dr, my son, 5yr old, has been diagnosed with diaree (stomach bugg) on Monday....They took a sample for analysis. Today he developed a rash on body and face....Went back to pead...who said that this is because of the same viral infection in his stomach. What I want to ask is: Does all children develope a rash because of a stomach viral infection? If not, why did this happen to my son....And does a spesific virus also cause a rash? Thanx

Many viruses enter the body through the gasro-intestinal system, but it is unusual for a child of your son's age to first have a viral-caused diarrhoea and then develop a rash 2 days later. The rash sounds like it could be German measles. This is not usually associated with diarrhoea.
