Very Thin child

Hi Doc

i am very concerned, my daughter is 5 years and 2 months but she weight 17 KG, is this right,
she used to be a big baby and she just started losing weight.
what can i buy her so that she can gain a little,
and what is the correct weight for a 5 year old child.

The average weight for a girl of 5 years is 18kg. Your daughter's weight is below the average but not seriously below average. I am concerned that she appears to be losing weight and for this reason you should ask your doctor to see her. We live in a country with a very high incidence of TB and this is certainly one illness that needs to be excluded as a possible reason for her losing weight.
