Q.

very high fever

Hi Doc

My 22m boy yesterday, out of the blue, developed a very high fever. He was absolutely fine the whole day, playing and eating and then within minutes by 4pm had a 40.4 degree temp. I undressed him and gave him some cool water and some Neurophen pead syrup. It came down to 39 degrees. He is obviously cranky and off food (he is drinking) and has absolutely no other symptoms. Do I wait it out or see a doctor. (At this point just tired and grumpy with high temp - no other symptoms.)

Thank you
BMJ

Your son's fever is indeed very high and it would be best for him to be seen by his doctor or at an emergency medical centre after hours.
