Very bad nappy rash

Baby 9 weeks old. Has nappy rash for 7. Was on a 5-day antibiotic course at 4 days old to treat an infection. Tried everything-changing diaper brands, airing bum etc. Been to clinic twice, pharmacy thrice and paediatrician once. Rash responded to nystacid, nothing else. We on the 3rd tube but it''s now flaring up very badly again and over a broader area and its very red and hard. I dont know what to do anymore. She doesnt have fever but is clearly in agony. Thanks for the help.

It is possible that your baby has a candida nappy rash but it should have cleared up by now by using the Nystacid cream. If your baby's nappy rash is so severe the most likely cause is a zinc deficiency. Your baby's zinc level must be tested, so ask your paediatrician to have this test done ASAP. Once the test has been done start your baby on Zinplex syrup daily.

It may sound like an old wives tale, but try maizena (from your kitchen cupboard) instead of baby powder.
And sometimes sodocream.
I used the maizena at night and took turns between the two during day time.

Oh yes thrush is apparently resistant to nystacid.

Hi try reuteri which is a probiotic. Together with that alternate between baby powder and sudocrem on the affected area. It worked for me. Also don''t use wet wipes if it''s only a wet nappy. The skin gets irritated easily there. Good luck!
