Urgent - baby coughing all night

Dear Prof

My 9 month old son suffered from RSV about two weeks ago and his cough cleared about 5 days ago. He started with a runny nose and coughing (productive-sounding) about 2 days ago and is coughing himself awake numerous times a night. He is happy and his usual self otherwise, and has no temperature with normal appetite as well. I gave him Coryx as a last resort at about 00h00 last night as he was coughing himself awake every so often and I thought it due to a post-nasal drip. It didn''t help. Is there anything else I can give him to help him sleep better? Pholtex?? I am not keen on any such drugs before age 2, but this is really uncomfortable for the little guy.

Many thanks!

It is possible that your baby son now has whooping cough. There is a lot of whooping cough around this year. Please ask your doctor to see him again as it is important to start treatment early otherwise this cough may last for weeks or months. Pholtex will not help and is not recommneded for babies.
