Doc, I need your help. My daughter was born at a normal weight of 3.20kg. she has just turned 5yrs and she was in the region of 14kg max (last weighed her she was 12kg). She eats fine never compalins of feeling sick etc but everybody says she is not growing at all. When she was two I took her to a ped who done blod tests as he also said she was underweight and only a lack of iron was found. Am i just a stressed mother or is there something wrong (gut feel) she was born with a very mild case of Spina bifida and was told nothing to worry about. PLEASE HELP if I need to take her to a ped please can you refer me to a good one

The average weight for a 5 year old girl is 18kg. Your little girl's weight is well below the average for her age and falls in the lowest 2% for all girls of 5 years. It is unlikely that mild spina bifida is the explanation for her being so underweight. It would definitely be best for her to be seen by a paediatrician. You have not mentioned the area where you live so I am unable to recommend a paediatrician. Ask your GP to recommend a paediatrician in your area.
