Unexplained fever / tick bite fever

Hi doc, my LG is 13 months old. She has had an unexplained fever for the last week already, along with flu like symptoms. She is not really ill, just runny nose really. She is also extremely aggitated. Yesterday we found a tick on her, and we are living in a tick area, and have come accross ticks in our house a few times already. I am now concerned that she might have been bitten by a tick, and this could be tick bite fever? She is going to the doctor this evening, but in the mean time, should I be concerned? If not, what else could this fever be? She is sleeping TERRIBLY - waking approximately 6 times in a night over the last week, and is awake for the day anywhere between 03:30 and 04:00 every day!!! We are exhausted, and just cannot keep up with this new routine of hers!!! Any suggestions?

It is very possible that your baby has tick bite fever. The doctor will have to do the blood test for this illness and should then treat your baby with the correct antibiotic. Babies are not allowed to have a tetracycline antibiotic which is the usual antibiotic used to treat tick bite fever.

Tick bite fever usually has an excrutiatingly bad headache as well as the flu like symptoms. I had it as a child and my husband had it about 2 years ago - I thought he was having a stroke.

Usually with tick bite fever you will find a black bite mark somewhere - look carefully it can be behind knees, between toes and in other places where skin folds. We only found the black tick bite on my husband three days after we had been to the doctor.

I forgot to mention, she used to sleep very well, she goes down between 18:30 and 19:30 each night, depending on her day at school. But she has always been an early riser, just now over the last week it''s been extremely early, along with a very restless night! Her nose is not blocked and we are treating it, it''s just very runny.
