underarm odour

not sure f this is the right forum for this but hopefully you can assist me.
my daughter is 7 turning 8 and has a underarm odour which is really bad. what is the cause of this? could it be a hormonial imbalance? if so, is there something that i can give her to balance it. what other solution is there. i dont want to get her using deoderates as i feel she is too young to use them.

Your daughter's underarm odour is an early sign that she is entering puberty. She is a bit young to be entering puberty already but as she is already 8 years old it is not necessary to have any hormone tests done. She will benefit from using a deoderant which is alcohol free and is the low allergy kind.

I think she is most probably starting very early puberty like my goddaughters did at the age of 8 1/2 - it most probably isn''t a hormonal imbalance but just that her hormones are now starting to work. You will most probably also soon start to see a bit of hair growth under the arms, etc. My goddaughters'' periods started when they were 11 to 12 years of age. I have seen it advised previously that what you should do re the odour is give her an anti-bacterial soap (Dettol, etc.) to use under the arm area (only), morning and night. If this still doesn''t help then you many have to start her on dedorant. A deodorant allows you to perspire and ''camouflages'' the odour, whereas an anti-perspirant tightens the pores i.e. preventing perspiration and thereby also preventing the odour. Hope the above helps.
