undecended testicle - 3 years 6 months child

dear doctor

my son has an undecended testicle. At birth the doctor said that it will decend by 4 or 5 years. All has been well since then. Since friday past, he has been complaining about pain about twice a day in the region where the undecended testicle is, just above the left side top of his penis. Is this pain something we should worry about or does all sound well and normal. Your advice is highly appreciated.

You are welcome. Your son's undescended testicle should have been treated with much sooner than this and it is incorrect that you should wait until he is 4 or 5 years. Now he has pain on the side of the undescended testicle. It is possible that the testicle has twisted, a condition known as 'torsion of the testes'. It is absolutely essential to take him to see a paediatrician or paediatric surgeon immediately even if he has to be seen at an after hours emergency unit today or this evening.
