Q.

Umbilical hernia

Hi,
My baby has been diagnosed with umbilical hernia. Would it be safe if we put him to sleep on his back, or does this hurt him? He also cries hysterically at night. Is there a connection between his crying more than usual and this hernia?

Regards,

This hernia is very common indeed and usually does not cause any symptoma at all.Your baby should be able to sleep on his back and be comfortable in this position. His crying may be due to another cause entirely such as to possible acid reflux causing him discomfort.
