Tummy Trouble

Hello Professor,

I have an appointment with my Paediatrician tomorrow - but would be nice to get your input.

My little girl is 16.5 months old - since very young, she has suffered with constipation, as a result, she eats very badly (probably feels full most of the time), and so it is a viscious cycle.
Last week I tried homeopathic tissue salts for constipation (the infant dose of a 1/4 crushed in her bottle) - the next day and a half she had the opposite problem - a runny tummy!!
We can just never get it right, I need a long term solution - any suggestions?

She has quite a lot of milk - 150ml on waking, 150ml mid morning, 150ml mid afternoon, and 200ml bed time (nothing during the night). She seems desperate for her milk, but is not interested in her food. I have started watering the formula (nan 3) down - is this good / bad / okay? Cows milk constipates her even more!

Thanks you for your time!

This is a good question as there are several issues here. Obviously your child should not be constipated. She is certainly drinking too much milk and not getting enough in the way of fibre and fruit in her diet. You can also say she is not getting enough water and fluid either. The milk fills her up so she does not eat.As a result she is so constipated. Your paediatrician is sure to discuss a good diet as the starting point for solving this constipation problem, but may advise the short term use of a mild laxative.
