This is probably not due to thrush but is more likely to be a virus infection called 'herpes stomatitis'. This infection results in painful ulcers in the mouth and children often cannot eat or drink. There is the danger that your son will become dehydrated so he should be seen by a doctor. It would be best to take him to an after hours paediatric unit as he may need admission to hospital if he is becoming dehydrated.
