Good afternoon Doctor

I have a set of 2 and a half year old twins. A boy and a girl. My son has been in hospital many times since birth.

2 times in 2006, 7 times in 2007 and 4 times in 2008. My doctor wants to remove his tongsils as soon as possible because it all starts with tongsilitis and then it ends in pneumonia.

My daugter has not been in hospital that much (nearly half the times her brother was in hospital) My doctor wants to remove her tongsils as well.

Is it safe at this age to remove their tongsils? I do not know if I am doing the right thing having their tongsils removed. I am also concerned that my children are on antibiotics every three weeks. I am also concerned that they will get sick more often than before the removal of their tongsils.

Please help, I do not know what to do!!??

Your children are old enough to have ther tonsils removed but only if the operation is necessary. They have both had lots of antibiotics and tonsillitis has been noted for certain in your son.It would be best to see an ENT specialist and let him decide whether the operation is really needed in both children.
