Morning Doc,

My daughter is 3 years 6 months old recently i cut hair, so now the hair is growing but there seems to me more hair on the top of the head rather that the sides and back side. I am not sure what to do anymore..When she was born she had this thick hair black and beautiful she eats well and i give her water, fruits and so on. Before she started preschool i had someone looking after her they i found out they were giving her those chips with lots of tartazine and now she doesn’ t eat it no more. Recently it was broadcast from the radio that those chips aren’ t good as they cause hair loss in children and ringworm’ s lots of them. I am opting to go see a doctor with regards to the condition. She had lots of hair now it doesn’ t seem to wanna grow back .

Thanking you in advance

This is very common in children of this age and is usually just a temporary problem. If she had ringworm of the scalp this would be on top of her head, not on the sides and would be very obvious. Tartrazine should not cause this to happen although I do agree that it is best to avoid tartrazine containing foods in children. Give your daughter a zinc supplement such as Zinplex syrup every day. Also massage coconut oil into her scalp at night. Only use very mild shampoos such as Elizabeth Anne baby shampoo when you wash her hair.
