Q.

Toddler with Chronic Kidney Disease

Hope that you are well, Doc. My almost 4 year old is due to start Grade RR in February, he has Chronic Kidney Disease and requires medication at specific times as well - I am already freaking out, having sleepless nights worrying about him coping at school which he''ll attend for half the day, I''m worried about him picking up infections as well. I have spoken to the teachers at the school regarding all my concerns but as a mom, I realise that the care he''l receive will not be the same as he would get from me. I''m not sure if you or maybe other moms on this forum can advise me. Thank you

Thank you. This is an important question. It would be best if you could send your son to a school with small classes and where the teacher will help with giving him any medication he may require. In my experience teachers are very good about helping with children who have chronic illnesses. You must provide as much information as necessary and even demonstrate how you give the medication to your son so that his teacher can fully understand what it is all about.
