Q.

Toddler strange behaviour

I am the grandmother of my little 2 1/2 grandson and would like to make an enquiry. duiring the last few months, he started to develop a different bowel fynctuion. He became constipated/ would bloat bad smelling flatulance and screams with pain.... saying his bottom is sore.
Parents took him to their local docter who said " Allergies"  The parerents have removed lactose and gluten and most diary from his diet and as far as the cramping and winds are concerned he is a lot better. however, he now has normal bowel movements(no constipation) and all is well till he needs to to " make a poo"  he starts to grab his behind and starts crying/ screaming.Around the rectum area it is difficult to clean him as he says it hurts. After the bowel motion and he is cleaned and a new nappy on,, he returns to his normal self.... till the next time. Please , do you have any suggestion. We are all perplexed by this and dont know what to do.
He eats healithy and I might mention not yet potty trained... When he had had a bowel motion,

It is difficult to be sure about your grandson's problem without being able to see him. It is possible that he has a tear of his anus. This is quite common at this age especially if he was constipated up until recently. It would also help to stop all fruit juice and acid fruits such as citrus and tomatoes as eating these foods may cause the burning he complains about. Try a healing nappy cream applied around his anus after every nappy change. Bepanthen is usually helpful for this.
