Toddler Sick

Hi Doc,

My toddler is sick with a cold, at the moment im just treating him with Adco-Flupain and Vibrocil for his nose. In less than 2 weeks time I have got my baby coming and really worried that he will make the newborn sick. Would you suggest that i get a antibiotic to get him better quicker? He was on a antibiotic about 2 weeks ago also for a cold.

Antibiotics should not be used to treat a cold which is caused by a virus.Viruses are not sensitive to antibiotics.Your child should not be treated with Adco-Flupain either which contains pseudoephedrine and is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.Just use Salex nose drops to clear his nose and give Panado or Calpol syrup for fever.Your son will recover from this cold by himself. It should last about 10 days.
