Toddler scared of noise

My son (almost 3yrs) has been acting very scared wheber he hears a loud noise. It started about 3-4 months ago. When we are outside and a plane comes over, he almost collapses onto the ground holding his ears. Absolutely anything sets him off, hairdryer-motorbike etc.Is this cause for concern or should I look at taking him to an audiologist?

You give a very clear description of your son's excessive sensitivity to loud sounds. This is not that uncommon in children of this age. Sensitivity to sound is known by the medical term of 'hyperacusis' It is sometimes a temporary problem, but may be a lifelong problem. Read more about 'hyperacusis' on Google. It would be a good idea to take your son to be seen by an audiologist.
