Q.

toddler

morning, my 2.5 yr old is causing me grey hairs over food! he eats hardly enything, we often have food fights, which I know are common, but surely he must eat something? He weights 13.5 kg is 92cm tall at 30 months. I know his weight is not a problem, he must be sucking nutrients from the air. Is it possible that some children just need less food? he drinks milk still at night and diluted juice during the day. When does this improve?
thanks

Despite not eating, your son's weight is just slightly below the average for his age, while his height is exactly on the average line. Many children of this age seem to suddenly lose their appetites. This is a passing phase and he will get to the stage when he will start eating again. The main thing is to keep mealtimes happy and peaceful and not to force him to eat anything. It is very difficult to sit there while your son does not eat a thing, but all you can do is to offer him foods which you think he may like and not make a big thing of it if he refuses.
