This is not a simple question as there can be two main problems with the thyroid gland; namely an overactive throid known as hyperthyroidism or an underactive thyroid known as hypothyroidism. Both of these would be rather rare in a 7 year old boy. With an overactive thyroid there is sweating, weight loss, nervousness and trembling . With a low thyroid there is sluggishness, weight gain, constipation, feeling cold and dry skin.A blood test is done to diagnose thyroid function.
