Childhood Diseases

Our son is 32 months, and we just want to know if his behaviour is normal for this age, or if it is something to be concerned about.

He can be happy and laughing one minute, then crying the next - he seems to change moods from one extreme to the next in an instant. He was always a happy toddler, and only cried when he was hurt, etc, but now he will cry and whine for absolutely anything.

Is this part of " the terrible 2' s"  or could it be something more? He is our first (and at this stage, only) child, so we' re not sure what we should expect in terms of temperament/mood swings.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Your little boy's behaviour could well simply be due to the terrible two's period, but he does seem to have rather excessive mood swings. If you have any concerns about the way he relates to you as his parents or to other adults and to children of his age then he should be seen by a paediatric neurologist to exclude any possibility of an autism syndrome.
