Q.

Teething and Ear Ache

Good morning Doctor,

My baby is 13 mths old and his back teeth are starting to cut through. His gums are swollen and very hard. Since Friday he has been holding his ear and crying with pain. I took to the clinic on Friday for his checkup and explained this to the sister. She said that the earache was related to the teething. I have been giving him panado twice a day (mornings and evenings) since Friday. I am now a little worried as I hate seeing my baby in pain. Do you think that it could be an infection, and should I take him to the doctor? Please help

This is a difficult question as your baby is teething and his pain could simply be due to this, but he is holding his ear all the time. For this reason it would be best to ask your doctor to check his ears.
