Q.

Teething

Hi Doc,

My baby girl is 4 months old and over the last week displayed some signs of teething such as drooling, fever , playing with her gums using her tounge &  fingers, cries at times even if she has been nappy changed and fed, also has slight rash on her chin. My question, is it possible for a 4 month old to start teething and please advise treatment as in medication for fever, teething, rash and advise on teething in general would be appreciated.

kind regards

Anand

Your baby has indeed started teething. This is perfectly normal but her teeth will not appear for another 8 weeks or so. If she is uncomfortable or has pain apply a little Pansoral gel to the centre part of her lower gums. Her rash is due to dribbling and it is her own saliva that is irritating the skin of her chin. Apply a little Bepanthen cream to her chin to clear her rash and to act as a barrier to further skin irritation.
