tea and heartburn - 2yr old?

My son has stopped breastfeeding over 6 months ago, and he now drinks rooibos tea, not the baby brand, the normal freshpack brand, and because I still want him to get milk in, I put more milk than tea in the bottle. My question is, can the tea cause him to get heartburn or reflux? Because he wakes up some nights, not very often, screaming, for no apparent reason, and when this happens, he would cough and then swallow, and looks to be in some kind of discomfort from the way he pulls his face, it even sometimes looks like he wants to vomit. Last night it happened again, and I cant see that it would be something that he ate, cause he ate nothing unusual yesterday.
He drinks about four 250ml bottles of tea a day, on weekends it might be more. Should I cut down on the tea, or should I switch back to the baby rooibos, (though its a bit expensive) or should I try to give him cows milk only? Your advice would be appreciated

Thank you

Your son's symptoms do suggest that he is having a heartburn or reflux problem. He is drinking a lot of rooibos and probably too much milk as well as you mix a lot of milk in with the rooibos. He only needs about 2 cups of milk a day now. He should be drinking water and he can have one bottle of rooibos during the day, none at night.
