Q.

Tantrums again

Can anyone please give some wholesome advice on this. My son is 28mths, and a wonderful, helpful, considerate child most of the time. His dad works away, and they donot get to spend much time together, so I find the more he misses his dad, the more he starts to whine and annoy me, and then the tantrums start. On Saturday alone we had 2 sessions. I cannot stand leaving him in his room, and the naughty chair does not work at moments like this. I find I am shouting at him, and do tend to smack him when I find nothing else helps, this doesn' t help either. What other approach can I use without losing my cool? I understand where his frustrations are coming from, so I know he' s not being deliberately naughty, and I shower him with the love and attention of 2 parents, but I just don' t know how to handle this anymore. Today I came to work with a heavy heart just thinking about the difficult weekend we had. His dad works weekends also, so its just me. I try to entertain on the weekends so it keeps his mind off his dad and that helps having other people around. Does anyone else experience frustration with these tantrums? I often question my parenting....any advice would help.
