Q.

Synflorix vs Prevenar

Dear Doc

I am told that Synflorix protects against more strains than Prevenar at present (although a new Prevenar vaccine is apparently in the pipeline?).

What would you suggest that I request for my 8 week old baby to be given? I assume that EITHER Synflorix OR Prevenar is given?

Thank you
Ida

Synflorix covers children for 10 strains of pneumococcal bacteria against the present 7 for Prevenar. The new Prevenar will cover for 13 strains. As the new Prevenar13 is not yet available, it would be best to give your baby the Synflorix now.
