Q.

swollen penis in 2-year-old.

Hi doctor My 2 year old boy has abit of a swollen penis and it looks slightly red and fat. he will always tell me its sore when i touch there but other than that it doesnt seem to bother him. will this go away on its own? or do i need to buy something or take him to a paediatrician? there is no discharge and he is currently on zithromax antibiotic for a bad cold. will this antibitoic maybe help to clear this up?

This sounds like an infection of mainly the tip of the penis which is known by the medical name of 'balanitis' The antibiotic he is on should help, but also apply Bactroban ointment to the tip of your son's penis twice daily. If the problem is not better after 48 hours or if your son seems to have difficulty passing urine, he must be seen by a doctor as quite often it may be necessary to do a circumcision to relieve this problem.
