Q.

Swollen glands

Good morning Doc.

My 5 year old told me on Sunday that his neck is sore. I noticed he had a swelling under his chin. He has a little gland under his chin that is hard like a litte pea. Today it is still there. This morning he has more swollen gland towards his one ear. He is not sick at all - but was sick with gastro two weeks ago. Any idea what it could be and do I need to have him looked at?

The glands you mention here are known as lymph glands. These glands usually enlarge as a result of an infection.Enlarged lymph glands in this areaa are usually related to throat or ear infections. Seeing as the glands are so noticeable it would be best to ask your doctor to see your son just to be on the safe side.
