Q.

Swelling

Hi doc. My son is six months old. I recently noticed that when he wakes up in the mornings his upper eyelid swells. This happens to the right eye only &  does not happen everyday though . He' s generally a good baby. He does not seem to be troubled by this &  the swelling goes down after a while. What could this be &  should I be concerned?

It is difficult to be sure about the answer to your question without being able to see your baby. His eye should obviously not be swollen. This may be due to an infection although this is not a strong possibility. Another possibility is an allergy. As he has a definite swelling of his right eyelid every morning it would be best to ask your paediatrician to see him just to be on the safe side.
