Stuffy Nose and Cough

Good Morning Prof

My 18 monh old son has a chesty cough and a runny nose. I would like to know what cough mixture I can give him. used Prospan - didn''t seem to be working. went back to the pharmacy and they gave me Adco-linctopen, i still no difference.

Please would you advise what i can do

Thank you. Cough mixtures are no longer recommended for children as they do not help. Often these medicines contain ingredients such as pseudo ephedrine and codeine related compounds which should not be given to children younger than 2 years of age. Rather just keep your son's nose clear by using a saline nose spray and give him a medicine to help to thin the mucous in his chest and make it easier for him to cough it up.Mucospect is recommended, 5ml twice daily for 5 days.
