Q.

stuffy nose - 4 month baby girl

Hi Dr.

I have a 4 month old baby girl who about 2 weeks ago had a bit of a cold. The pead had give her cortizone 1x daily for 3 days and an antihistemine for 7 nights. She got better soon after the meds but now she has a stuffy nose again it is mainly when she wakes up from her night sleep or a nap and as the day progresses it clears up, she does sneeze. (she has had abit of a stuffy nose and sneezes since birth) would this be the start of a cold again or is it just sinus (i myself suffer from sinus since i can remember) i have been cleaning her nose with Sterimar baby and a nose suction pipe thing.

You are doing the correct things to help to clear your baby's nose. You mention that her nose has been stuffy and that she sneezes quite often and this has been happening since birth. It is possible that she has a nasal allergy problem. Babies are now being diagnosed at very early ages with allergic rhinitis. You mention that you have sinus and it is possible that you are also allergic, so she may have inherited this tendency to develop allergies from you.It would be best to take your baby to be seen and tested by a paediatric allergist.
