Q.

STools - what is normal?

Dr can you please advise me what is normal stools. My baby is 3 weeks old, he was on Infasoy, his stools were loose (about 8 -9 in 24 hours) there was blood in his stools, the paed told me to put him on Nan LF. His stools was better for 2 days, and now it is loose again (6-7 in 24 hours). Is this normal, I also give him Reuteri drops (3 drops 1 x per day). I also would like to put him back on Infasoy as it is cheaper and it is available.

Your baby is passing more stools per day than one would expect. The fact that he was passing blood may have been an indication that your baby is allergic to cow's milk rather than having lactose intolerance. You could try NAN HA before gong to Infasoy, but he may not be able to even tolerate this hypoallergenic formula and then you will have to use the Infasoy. Stop the Reuteri drops as this may also be causing him to pass loose stools.
