Q.

Stools

Doctor, my 2 and half year old''s stool was green for 2 or 3 days - what causes this? I cant recall her diet changing but we introduced Scotts emulsion - could that have caused it?

The green colour is due to bile in her stools. Normally the bile is changed to a brown colour as the stools pass through the intestines. When the stools pass through the digestive system more rapidly than usual the bile may retain its green colour. This may be caused by something in your daughter's diet having a slight laxative effect and may be due to fruit, fruit juice or to the cod liver oil in the Scotts emulsion. It is not necessary tio be worried about this as long as your daughter's stools do not become very loose and watery.
