stomach infections

my 23month old has stomach problems, it''s the 3rd time now in his short life that he has this. It starts by him passing stool 3 to 4 times a day. And his stool is not runny like diarrhea and is not hard, it is loose and has lots of mucus. at the beginning he passes this kind of stool easy, then as it continues it creates some discomfort before it passes. This causes problems at night, he''ll toss and turn for an hour before passing that stool that has mucus. What can this be? the last time when this happened the Dr told us that it was a stomach bug and prescribed some antibiotics for the chesty cough that he had at the time then ProB6 for the stomach. It took a while before he got better, but eventually he was fine. what can be the problem with his stomach? please help!!!

This is almost certainly a condition known as 'toddler's diarrhoea' It is NOT due to an infection but is usually a reaction to too much fruit and especially fruit juice in the diet. It is the fructose which is the natural sugar in fruit that causes this reaction. Stop all fruit and especially fruit juice for at least 10 days. Your son can eat grated apple but no other fruit. He can start eating a little fruit again after 10 days but must stay off fruit juice completely.
