Stomach bug

Hi Doc

My 5year old came down with a stomach bug yesterday. His main symptoms are vomitting, diahoreaa, fever (only started 12 hours after first symptoms) and general body aches and fatigue. He vomitted frequently - about 10 times last night and had 3 bouts of diahoreaa. Even a teaspoon of water starts the vomitting. He then stopped vomitting around midnight and was very thirsty this morning and asked for something to drink. I gave him a few mouthfull''s of flat coke - but that again started the vomitting. He is not dehydrated yet, but I am concerned that he could become. He is a very fussy eater/drinker when in good health and he will not try even a sip of rehydrate. Is it at all advisable to try valoid so we can get fluid''s in?

Thank you

I am not keen on giving Valoid as this masks the symptoms. Your son needs to be see by a paediatrician as he may require admission for rehydration.
