Stimulation and play for 4 month old

I''m looking after my little nephew for a month untill he can go to a nursery school.

My ''baby'' is already 8 years old, so I can''t remember much about mile stones, etc.

What games can I play with him to help his development and keep him entertained?

Sing to him and play music to him. The rest is just being with him and showing him things of interest.

Give him the chance to see the world from different angles - so sit him propped with pillows, lie him on his tummy, put him under a play gym and make funny noises and what have you with the animals that lie down.

give him things with different textures to hold - soft things, crinkly things, feathery things etc.

Lie him in just his nappy on different textures, a rough carpet, a satin pillow slip etc.

Sing to him, dance with him, walk with him in the pram or in a pouch and talk as you go telling him all about what you are seeing.

If you make any toys or buy him toys, make them brightly coloured with lots of contrast.

laughing and pulling funny faces will also give him lots of joy so spend a bit of time clowning around.

Also lift him up and swing him around like a helicopter and then whoosh him down and fly him backwards between your legs. This is apparently supposed to help him understand his body position in space (I''m pretty certain we all figure that out for ourselves anyway, but he''ll love the whooshing around so might as well do it anyway).

Read to him and show him pictures in books. Doesn''t really matter what you read, read him YOU magazine if you like, he''ll just enjoy the rythym of your voice.
