Still coughing

Dear Paed

Little 16 months old boy is now happy on his soy milk, but he is still coughing. Had him at his paed a week ago, and she prescribed Duolin neb, which we did until Saturday. His cough isn''t improving and he still sounds wheezy, he also hardly ate a at all this weekend. Started him on Celestamine (left over from previous script) on Sat (just 2.5 ml before bed-time) and it seems to help a bit. I myself have viral bronchitis and GP said that its apparently whats going round in our area and it can last 2 weeks. What is my next move and when? Do I need to take him back to the paed? Thanks for your help - our regular paed left for Canada about a year ago, and I''m a bit lost without him.

I am not happy about you giving your liitle son Celestamine which is a powerful cortisone. You need to have a proper diagnosis of his problem. It would be best to see a paediatric allergist about this. There are experts in all the main centres in SA.The allergist should follow up your son until he is doing well.
