Sticky Eyes

My 8 month old and 3 year old both started with a discharge from their eyes three days ago. It sticks together when they wake from sleep and the yellow mucous always forms there throughout the day. Will it go away or will I need to get medication for them.

As well I am a bit concerened about my three year old. Besides the sticky eye he is otherwise well but the past few days his breathing sounds so loud- heavy like breathing. He has been also very quiet and ''upset'' all day. I have never experienced this type of behaviour with him and the breathing sounds unusual. What could be wrong?

You can make up a dilute salt solution using a quarter teaspoonful of salt in a cup of boiled and cooled water. Use this solution to wipe their eyes from the nose side of the eye outwards. Throw away each cotton wool swab after a single wipe. Do this twice a day.I am not sure what is wrong with your son from your description here.He may have a cold with a blocked nose. If his nose is blocked use a saline nose spray such as Sterimar for children twice daily.
