Squint operation

My grandson is now 4.5 years old. He was born with a congenital squint, his father had the same problem. His left eye was really bad. At the age of 2 he had an operation to correct this, done by a pediatric opthalmologist. After a time the left eye deviated inwards again by 17 deg. His mother patched the good eye regularly to get the sight up in his left eye. His sight in his right eye is perfect but the sight in his left eye is very poor as the specialist said the brain " switches off"  using the squint eye. He had another operation 4 days ago. This time the outer muscles were adjusted to pull the eyes outwards towards the middle and the lower muscles were adjusted to pull them down as they deviated upwards sometimes as well. They are obviously swollen, red and bruised at the moment but what concerns us greatly is that the left eye looks like its been pulled too far the other way! That eye also looks like a blind persons eye. It is most disconcerting as it looks worse than when slightly squint. Is this normal straight after surgery? Will his eye settle down and settle in the " middle"  where its supposed to be? At the moment he looks like a cameleon! Thank you

It is difficult for me to answer this question without being able to see your grandson. It may be too early to decide whether the operation is a success now as there will be swelling if the tissues which needs to settle down. If you have any concerns please speak to the eye surgeon,I am sure that he will be prepared to answer your questions.
