Speech problem

Me again. My son also is not talking yet. Should I be concerned? He' s made no progress in speech since about 18mth. Says Dadda, Bur (bird), Babba, but that' s it. He doesn' t even say Mamma, or ta (aaa). His brother, 4yrs,talks a lot for him but I just feel he should be making SOME progress. He also hits a lot and headbuts when frustrated, which is quite a lot.

Your son seems to be getting quite angry at times. You need to be firm with him about this. Speak clearly and in a firm voice. Just say 'Stop doing that!' if he tries to headbiut or hit you or anybody else. If he does not stop immediately, put him in his room and close the door. Do not let him out until he is quiet. Do this each and every time he hits or headbuts and he will soon get the message. You do not say how old he is. His speech is certainly very immature still and he is not making any progress.Try and encourage him to speak and to use more words by always telling him the names of objects, food and animals.Read to him every nigh when he goes to bed. If he is not talking properly by 3 years it will become necessary to take him to see a speech therapist.
