Sore Willy - 10yr old

Please can you advise - my son woke on Monday night (09/03/09) complaining the " sack"  under his willy was sore. When I checked, there seemed to be a bit of swelling. He complained yesterday after school that he was having difficulty sitting and standing as this area seemed very sore. My husband checked last night, &  was alarmed to see how swollen the area was. Can this be the start of puberty or is there perhaps another problem? Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

This is a problem which may be serious. It sounds like one of his testes has become twisted. This is known as 'torsion of the testis'. He must be seen by a paediatric surgeon immediately. Please let me know what happens.

Thank you for your advice, we took Seth to the Doc, Seth has a severe infection in the " tube"  to the testes. He was prescribed steriods (3 days), cortisone and painkiller - the doc says the infection should clear in a day or so, if not, Seth will have to see our local Paed.
