son''s behaviour confusing

Hi Doc,

My 3 yr old son was on S26 - Gold. However, it had to be stopped due to it not been produced anymore. He was still on formula due to his poor eating habits. Recently though this has gotten worse. He lives on 2/3 biscuits, a little cereal, little toast, little tea/milo/milkshake, rarely some macaroni or rice. He just does not want to eat any proper food. As a result he has started throwing these " tantrums"  - I think this is due to him been hungry. He will ask us to do something &  when we try to do it he moves away &  then if we don''t do it he starts to cry / scream. So basically we not sure what to do. He throws himself onto the floor crying. I have now decided to let him have his cry/tantrum &  when he is finished / tired he will stop. I feel totally helpless &  am so very tired after his sessions. He sometimes wakes up crying &  is also the last thing he does before he sleeps as well.

Please doc is there something you could recommend for his eating habits? And is there another explanation for his behaviour &  how do I handle it?

Mant thanks,

I would like you to let me know about your son's weight. He certainly has a very poor appetite and is obviously not eating enough. His diet appears to be mainly milk and he may have developed an iron deficiency. Another possibility is a form of allergy to milk known as the 'allergic tension-fatigue syndrome' His behaviour would certainly fit that diagnosis. As a start he should have his blood tested for possible iron deficiency. Once you are sure that he is not iron deficient it would be a good idea to stop all milk and dairy in his diet for at least 14 days. Substitute with soya milk and products wherever possible. See if his behaviour and appetite improve.Let me know how your son gets on and also about his weight.
